Are there any free (and trustworthy) antivirus software out there?

AVG from GriSoft has scored well in antivirus tests and is available free for personal use:

The same goes for Avast!

I just recently tried ClamWin and have found it to be very easy to use and as thorough as AVG
I'll 2nd or 3rd AVG. I run AVG on my client's computers and I trust it enough to run at home.
Grisoft makes a very good free virus scanner that is updated regularly.

AntiVir is at least as good as AVG, better than Avast and definitely better than ClamWin. ClamWin should only come in as a second opinion.
Yes there is from the responses above.

Antidote Super Lite version

Anti-vir

Avast!

Anti-virus program for Windows. The home edition is freeware for noncommercial users.
