Does any one know if the Ca Antivirus 1 year free trial is anygood?

the software is only ok. but one year of anything free is pretty good. as long as they give u an option to cancel it if you are not happy with it, then i say go with it.

CA is not bad, but it is certainly not the best.

AVG is my top choice for a free AV

BitDefender has excellent detection, but is plagued by false positives. I should know because I have submitted countless false positives to them well as viruses that are not detected by their scanner. They are pretty slow to respond to any inquires about FP's and virus submissions. One time it took 2 months before they responded back to me. With the way things are with them, I find it hard to comprehend how their product detects malware so well, but it does.

BitDefender 8 Free Edition is not to be used as your main AV because of it's lack of an ''active scanner'' It is however an excellent ''on-demand scanner'' to compliment your existing AV scanner. I recommend setting the first option to ''clean'' and the second to ''copy to quarantine'' under ''Anti-Virus'' %26gt; ''Settings'' tabs, that way you could restore any false if need be.

If you are unsure of a BitDefender detection you can run it through http://www.virustotal.com/en/indexf.html to determine if it is really an infection. If it is deteced by other reputable scanners, you can then do a ''context menu'' scan of the file and select the option to delete it.
